Meet the Team
Joseph Mackrell is the owner and sole principal of Mackrell & Thomas. He initially set it up in 1982 with his friend David Thomas. After a few years Dave decided he wanted to see a bit more of the world and travel so Joe bought Dave’s share and the practice has remained under Joe’s sole ownership ever since. Joe’s area of expertise is in Criminal Law although it’s a few years since he’s been to Court. Joe’s involvement is now supporting Louise in managing his practice.
During his spare time Joe enjoys playing golf and is currently working on getting his handicap down. He also enjoys spending time with his four grandchildren.
Louise Gillespie is the Practice Manager for Mackrell & Thomas and has been with the firm for over 23 years. She is responsible for managing the practice including financial management, marketing, HR and regulatory compliance. Supporting Louise in finance, admin and Health & Safety is Christine Brown.
During her spare time Louise has recently started her own business “Jessies Jewels” specialising in costume jewellery. A bit different to the day job! Any other spare time Louise has she enjoys spending with her husband, daughter Jess and her two dogs Benson & Bailey.
Mark Hunter is the head of our Personal Injury department whose main areas of practice are Accidents at Work, Road Traffic Accidents and Slips, Trips & Falls. Mark has considerable expertise in cases involving severe injuries. Mark is a qualified Solicitor and was educated at The University of East Anglia and the College of Law in Chester. Mark has recenlty joined the firm and has over 15 years’ experience as a solicitor specialising in personal injury work and is also an Accredited Senior Litigator with the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers.
Mark is a keen supporter of Liverpool Football Club and attends matches as often as possible with his wife and son.
Christine Brown is our Assistant Practice Manager providing support to Louise our Practice Manager in areas of admin and Health & Safety. Christine also works on reception and is also our Health and Safety Officer, a qualified first aider and one of our fire marshals. Christine has been with the firm for over 7 years and has a Level 3 NVQ in Business Administration.
In her spare time Christine enjoys spending time with her boyfriend and both her own and his family. She also attends a gym trying to keep up with zumba and spinning classes but balances this out with eating plenty of chocolate!
Rachael Jones is one of our Legal Secretaries and has been with Mackrell & Thomas for over 10 years and also provides occasional support to reception. Rachael has an NVQ Level 1 in Business Administration and IT and also has a Level 2 RSA qualification.
In her spare time Rachael attends her local gym and enjoys spending time with friends and family, eating out, going to the cinema and socialising at her favourite venues. Rachael is an avid fashion fan and loves to shop and holiday in different countries.
Claire Lawler is one of our Legal Secretaries and has been with Mackrell & Thomas for over 14 Years and has a certificate in Personal Injury Law, an NVQ in Business Administration and is one of our qualified first aiders.
In her spare time Claire enjoys being a mum to her young son and daughter and when she has time absolutely loves shopping and eating out with friends and family.
Danielle Powell is one of our Legal Secretaries and has 10 years experience working within a legal environment. Danielle has been with Mackrell & Thomas for 4 years and also provides support to reception. Danielle has an ILEX Legal Secretary Certificate, an NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration and is also one of our fire marshals.
In her spare time Danielle occasionally attends her local gym and enjoys all different types of fitness classes. Danielle loves spending time with her young daughter, family and friends.
Carolyn Cross is one of our Legal Secretaries and has 24 years experience working within a legal environment. Carolyn has been with Mackrell & Thomas for a year so is our newest member of staff. Carolyn studied at Millbank College gaining qualifications in typing and computer studies and is also one of our qualified first aiders.
Carolyn is a busy working mum and likes to spend her weekends with her family, they have a pet Shihtzu and enjoy to go on walks in their spare time. Carolyn loves to socialise with friends when she can and enjoys dining out and seeing the latest film releases at the cinema, she is also a proud Everton FC fan.
