In the Community
Mackrell & Thomas are delighted to be the main sponsor of this years’ Knowsley Flower Show. The show is celebrating its 13th year and is the largest free horticultural show in the North West, attracting up to 18,000 people. This years’ show is expected to be bigger and better than ever. It is the perfect opportunity for the firm to be involved with the largest annual event in the Borough and such a great local community project.
If you’ve never visited the show before you will be in for a pleasant surprise. As well as a giant floral marquee – which is always a blaze of colour and which houses over 400 exhibits – there is a fantastic array of entertainment and attractions on offer, including falconry displays, guided walks, a woodworker, craft demonstrations, dog obedience, arts workshops and circus skills. A large craft marquee will feature in the show along with trade stands ranging from garden centres to conservatories. The show also includes childrens fairground rides, the Youth Arts Friendship Field with live music, dance and activities including jewellery making and samba drumming. There is a “gardeners’ question time” where you can seek gardening tips, and a large farmers market… in a nutshell a great day out for all of the family.
The show is set in the grounds of Court Hey Park – home of the National Wildlife Centre and former residence of the late William Gladstone.

AFC Liverpool
AFC Liverpool was formed as an Industrial and Provident Society in 2008 as an alternative for those priced out of current top flight football. With costs rising and the availability of tickets becoming much harder to come by, the club was set up to give football back to those unable to access it. The club was formed by Liverpool FC fans and is also owned by the fans. Anyone can become a member and own the club, and as it is a non profit organisation, all money stays in the club. It is a true community based club that can grow as far as its community want it to. We also have various aged youth teams for boys and girls, playing in various leagues across the area and we are keen to develop this in whichever area of Liverpool we can call ‘home’. For want of a better description, we are a Co-operative.
We are currently playing in ‘Step 6′ of the football pyramid, 10 leagues down from the Premier League. In our first 2 seasons we have become the first team to win the League Cup twice in its 26 year history, also winning it back to back. We have had the highest average attendances for our league and the league above. Our website receives more than one million hits per month and we are regularly featured on the official LFC website and also in the LFC match day programme.
Although we currently play our home matches at Prescot Cables FC, in Prescot our aim is to have a home inside Liverpool’s city boundary as we want to give our community and city a true peoples club, bringing families and all those who are unable to view live football the chance to be a part of a community.

Huyton FC
The Huyton School Boys football team has been going on and off for a long long time, as far back as famous people like Peter Read, Micky Quinn, etc played in their day. As of now I the manager Brian Summerskill have been in charge for the last 9 years and for such a small district I feel that the boys who get selected have done a fantastic job. Our aim every year is to try and get the boys to the Everton Cup Final played at Goodison Park and in the last 7 years 6 Huyton boys teams have got there, great memories for the boys to cherish.
We also have a great coach named Paul O’Brien who like myself volunteers and enjoys the whole camaraderie of working in the community.

Knowsley Chamber of Commerce has commenced a programme of transformational change in order to become a flagship organisation in the borough. Our aim is simple – to work tirelessly to help, support, promote and generate trade for the borough’s business and increase the opportunities for start-ups, not-for-profit organisations, SMEs and, of course, entrepreneurs. Therefore whilst the economic landscape has changed the Chamber’s primary role remains immovable and resilient.
This Chamber of Commerce can be of real value in tough trading times; we therefore believe that membership of Knowsley Chamber is one of the best investments a business can make. We work hard to build and sustain relationships with our members, and make the time to communicate and interface with them whenever and wherever it is possible. Knowsley Chamber is a well respected, a-political organisation and plays an active role in the borough and region. The Chamber is regularly consulted, and our views are sought, by Government, local authorities, key stakeholders, MPs, other Chambers of Commerce, and the media.
We are, of course, only as strong and influential as our members make us, therefore by joining the Chamber you can add your voice to those who are already committed to the borough’s commercial success, and, in turn, help to shape the future of Knowsley and the region. The Chief Executive, Mrs Lesley Martin-Wright, has been in post since June 2010, and since joining has commenced on course of restructure, including strengthening the Board of Directors, a rebrand, and the introduction of new operational systems.
